Notification Preferences
Tune your personal Slack notifications, including muted categories and delivery mode.
Notification Preferences
Channel notifications (Channel Notifications) are shared and set up at the workspace level. Your personal preferences control something different: the direct messages YAPL sends just to you, based on what's relevant to you specifically, like your assignments and your teams.
Find these under Settings > Integrations > Slack > Personal preferences. They only apply once your Slack account is linked.
Turning Direct Messages On or Off
Send Slack DMs is the master switch. Turn it off to stop all personalized direct messages while keeping channel notifications and slash commands working as normal.
Delivery Mode
Choose how often you want personalized direct messages to arrive:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Real-time | You're notified as soon as something relevant happens |
| Hourly digest | Everything from the last hour arrives as one message, on the hour |
| Daily digest | Everything from the day arrives as one message, at the hour and timezone you set |
Digests group your updates by plan so they're easy to scan, and cap the list per plan with a "+N more" summary if there's a lot. If nothing happened, no digest is sent for that period.
Turning on Suppress on weekends skips digest delivery on Saturday and Sunday in your chosen timezone. Anything that would have gone out is simply included in your next digest instead of being lost.
Muted Categories
Mute entire categories of notification without turning direct messages off completely:
| Category | Covers |
|---|---|
| Plans | Plan publishes and the assignment or status changes inside them |
| Projects | Project lifecycle changes |
| Tasks | Task assignment, unassignment, and status changes outside of a plan publish |
| Teams | Team membership changes |
| Workspace | Workspace-level announcements |
Muting is personal, so it only affects your own direct messages. Channel notifications keep posting regardless of what you've muted for yourself.
Testing Your Setup
Click Send test DM to confirm the connection works end to end. This is useful right after linking your account or changing your notification settings.
How This Differs From Browser Push and Email
Slack direct messages run alongside YAPL's browser push and email notifications. They're configured separately, in Preferences, not here, and one doesn't replace the other. Turning off Slack DMs doesn't affect push or email, and vice versa.
