Connecting Slack

Connecting Slack happens in two steps. The workspace owner installs the YAPL app once for the whole Slack workspace, and then each person links their own account (most people don't need to do this manually, see Auto-Linking by Email below).

Prerequisites

• You must be the workspace owner to install the app.
• Your YAPL workspace must be on a Professional or Trial plan.
• You need permission to install apps in your Slack workspace.

Installing the App

1. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Slack.
2. Click Connect Slack.
3. You're redirected to Slack to approve the YAPL app and choose a workspace.
4. After approving, you're redirected back to YAPL and walked through a short setup:
   • Welcome confirms the connection.
   • Default channel lets you pick a Slack channel and a starting notification preset (for example "Plan releases only" or "Everything"). You can change this anytime in Channel Notifications.
   • User mapping summary shows how many Slack users were auto-linked by email.
   • Done returns you to Settings.

If your plan doesn't include Slack, the Connect button is replaced with an upgrade prompt.

Auto-Linking by Email

When the app is installed, YAPL automatically matches Slack users to YAPL accounts by email address, so most people never need to do anything manually. A match happens when a Slack workspace member's email matches an existing YAPL workspace member's email exactly.

Linking Manually

If your Slack and YAPL emails don't match, or auto-linking didn't run for you, link your account yourself from Slack:

1. In Slack, run /yapl link.
2. Click Link my account.
3. Sign in to YAPL if prompted.
4. Your accounts are now linked.

Until you're linked, YAPL replies to your commands with a prompt to link first.

Unlinking

To stop receiving direct messages from YAPL and disconnect your Slack identity from your YAPL account:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack > Personal preferences.
2. Under Slack account, click Unlink account.
3. Confirm.

The workspace owner can re-map you later if needed. Unlinking doesn't affect channel notifications; those keep posting regardless of individual account links.

Reconnecting

If the connection is interrupted, for example if the bot token needs refreshing, click Reconnect on the Slack settings page. This re-runs the OAuth approval without resetting your channel subscriptions or user mappings.

Disconnecting

Only the workspace owner can disconnect Slack, from Settings > Integrations > Slack > Settings tab. Disconnecting removes all channel subscriptions and stops all Slack notifications for the workspace. User mappings and preferences are preserved in case you reconnect later.
