Plan Assignments
Connect plans to projects in YAPL.
Plan Assignments
Plan assignments connect plans to projects, controlling access and integrating plans into project metrics and reporting.
Understanding Assignments
Plan assignments determine:
- Which project the plan belongs to
- Who can access the plan (via project teams)
- Where it appears in navigation and reports
- How metrics combine with project data
Assignment Types
Project-Assigned Plans
Plans linked to a specific project:
- Created from project context
- Inherit project team access
- Appear in project's plan list
- Part of project metrics
Standalone Plans
Plans without project assignment:
- Created independently
- Workspace-level access
- Personal or shared planning
- Can be assigned later

Assignment Effects
Access Control
When assigned to a project:
| Who | Access |
|---|---|
| Project team members | Based on team role |
| Non-project members | No access |
| Workspace owners | Full access |
Metrics Integration
Assigned plans contribute to project:
- Task completion statistics
- Timeline metrics
- Budget tracking (if enabled)
- Progress reporting
Navigation
Assigned plans appear:
- In project's plan list
- Project metrics dashboard
- Project reports
Removing Assignments
When to Remove
Remove assignment when:
- Plan no longer relevant to project
- Moving to different project
- Converting to standalone
How to Remove
- Open the plan
- Navigate to Assignments tab
- Find the assignment
- Click Remove or unlink option
- Confirm removal
Removal Effects
After removing:
- Plan becomes standalone
- Access changes to workspace-level
- Removed from project metrics
- Historical data preserved
Multiple Project Assignments
Single vs. Multiple
Plans typically have one project assignment:
- Clear ownership
- Straightforward access
- Simple metrics
Shared Plans
If plan serves multiple projects:
- Consider multiple project assignment
- Or use standalone with explicit sharing
- Metrics may be shared
Reassigning Plans
Moving Between Projects
To move a plan to different project:
- Remove current assignment
- Add new project assignment
- Access updates immediately
Considerations
Before reassigning:
- New project team gains access
- Old project loses the plan
- Metrics shift to new project
Standalone Plan Uses
When to Use Standalone
- Personal planning workspace
- Cross-project planning
- Templates (copy to projects)
- External consultant work
Converting to Assigned
Any standalone plan can be assigned:
- Open plan
- Go to Assignments
- Select project
- Plan joins project
Access Implications
Project Assignment Controls Access
| Plan Status | Access Via |
|---|---|
| Assigned | Project team membership |
| Standalone | Workspace membership |
Team Role Impact
For assigned plans, team role determines:
- Lead: Full access
- Member: Edit access
- Viewer: View only
Best Practices
Clear Assignment
- Assign to one primary project

- Review assignments periodically
Planning Workflow
