# Notifications

Notifications keep you informed about important activity in your workspaces. YAPL provides simple notification controls to help you stay updated without being overwhelmed.

## Accessing Notification Settings

1. Click **Settings** in the sidebar navigation
2. Select **Preferences** tab
3. Find the **Notifications** section

## Available Notification Controls

YAPL currently offers two notification toggles:

| Setting | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| **Email Notifications** | Receive activity updates via email |
| **Push Notifications** | Receive browser push alerts |

## Email Notifications

### Enabling Email Notifications

1. Go to **Settings > Preferences**
2. Find **Email Notifications**
3. Toggle the switch to enable or disable

When enabled, you'll receive email notifications for important workspace activity including:
- Task assignments and updates
- Project changes
- Team activity
- Security alerts

Security-related notifications (password changes, new device logins) are always sent regardless of this setting.

### Email Delivery

- Emails are sent to your registered email address
- Check your spam folder if emails aren't arriving
- Add YAPL to your safe senders list for reliable delivery

## Push Notifications

### Enabling Push Notifications

1. Go to **Settings > Preferences**
2. Find **Push Notifications**
3. Toggle the switch to enable
4. When prompted, allow browser notifications

### Browser Permission

When you enable push notifications for the first time:

1. Your browser will request permission
2. Click **Allow** to enable push notifications
3. Notifications will appear in your system notification area

### Managing Browser Permissions

If you previously denied permission or want to change settings:

**Chrome:**
1. Click the lock icon in the address bar
2. Find Notifications setting
3. Change to Allow

**Firefox:**
1. Click the lock icon in the address bar
2. Find Permissions section
3. Enable Notifications

**Safari:**
1. Go to Safari > Preferences
2. Select Websites > Notifications
3. Allow for YAPL

Push notifications require a modern browser and may not work in all environments. If push notifications aren't available, rely on email notifications instead.

## Notification Types

When notifications are enabled, you'll be notified about:

| Activity Type | Description |
|---------------|-------------|
| Task Assignments | When tasks are assigned to you |
| Mentions | When someone @mentions you |
| Project Updates | Changes to your projects |
| Team Changes | Team membership updates |
| Security Alerts | Account security events |

## Best Practices

### Staying Informed

- Keep at least one notification channel enabled
- Check email notifications if you work across multiple devices
- Enable push notifications for real-time awareness

### Reducing Noise

- If receiving too many notifications, consider disabling one channel
- Review notifications periodically to stay current
- Use email for a record of activity

## Troubleshooting

### Not Receiving Email Notifications

1. Verify email notifications are enabled in Settings
2. Check your spam/junk folder
3. Verify your email address is correct in Profile Settings
4. Add YAPL emails to your safe senders list

### Push Notifications Not Working

1. Check that push notifications are enabled in Settings
2. Verify browser permission is set to Allow
3. Check your system notification settings
4. Try a different browser
5. Ensure your browser is up to date

### Notifications Not Appearing

1. Refresh the page
2. Check your notification settings
3. Verify you have access to the relevant items
4. Clear browser cache if issues persist
