Learn how to filter and find tasks on the Kanban board in YAPL.

Filtering Tasks

Filtering helps you focus on specific tasks by hiding others. Use filters to find what you're looking for quickly or to concentrate on particular work items.

Why Filter?

Filtering is useful to:

  • Find specific tasks quickly
  • Focus on your assignments
  • View tasks by priority
  • See overdue items
  • Reduce visual clutter

Filter Controls

Location

Find filter controls in:

  • Toolbar above the board
  • Filter dropdown menu
  • Quick filter buttons

Filter Types

Filter by Assignee

Selecting Assignees

  1. Click assignee filter
  2. Select one or more team members
  3. Board shows only their tasks

Your Tasks

Quick filter for your own tasks:

  • "My tasks" or "Assigned to me"
  • Shows only tasks you own

Filter by Status

Selecting Status

  1. Click status filter
  2. Select columns to show
  3. Other columns hide

Use Cases

Multiple Statuses

Select multiple to combine:

  • "In Progress" + "In Review" = Active work
  • All except "Completed" = Open items

Filter by Priority

Priority Levels

Filter by priority:

  • Critical
  • High
  • Medium
  • Low

Selecting Priority

  1. Click priority filter
  2. Select levels to show
  3. Other priorities hide

Focus on Urgent

Select "Critical" and "High" to:

  • See urgent items
  • Focus attention
  • Triage effectively

Filter by Due Date

Date Ranges

Common options:

  • Overdue
  • Due today
  • Due this week
  • Due this month
  • No due date

Custom Range

If available:

  • Select start date
  • Select end date
  • Show tasks in range

Finding Overdue

Filter for overdue to:

  • See what's late
  • Prioritize recovery
  • Address delays
  1. Find search box
  2. Type search terms
  3. Results filter in real-time

What's Searched

Search typically looks at:

  • Task name
  • Task description
  • Tags or labels

Search Tips

  • Use specific terms
  • Try partial words
  • Search is usually case-insensitive

Combining Filters

Multiple Filters

Combine filters for precision:

  • Assignee + Status = "My in-progress tasks"
  • Priority + Due date = "High priority due this week"
  • Search + Assignee = "Tasks about X assigned to Y"

Filter Logic

Multiple filters typically use AND logic:

  • Task must match ALL selected filters
  • More filters = fewer results

Quick Filters

Common Presets

Quick access buttons for:

  • My tasks
  • Due today
  • High priority
  • Unassigned

Using Quick Filters

  • One click to apply
  • Click again to clear
  • Combine with other filters

Clearing Filters

Remove All Filters

  • Click "Clear" or "Reset"
  • Remove filters individually
  • Refresh page

Removing Single Filter

  • Click X on active filter
  • Deselect in dropdown
  • Toggle off

Filter Indicators

Active Filter Display

When filters are active:

  • Badge shows filter count
  • Active filters listed
  • Clear indication something is filtered

Hidden Task Count

May show:

  • "10 of 50 tasks shown"
  • "Filtering active"
  • Task count per column changes

Saving Filters

Filter Persistence

Filters may:

  • Clear on page reload
  • Persist in session
  • Save to preferences (if supported)

Saved Views

If available:

  • Save filter combinations
  • Name saved views
  • Quick access to saved filters

Filter Impact

On Column Counts

When filtering:

  • Column counts update
  • Show filtered count only
  • May show "X filtered"

On Board Appearance

Filtered board:

  • Only matching cards visible
  • Empty columns may show
  • Board looks less full

Mobile Filtering

On Touch Devices

Filter on mobile:

  • Tap filter button
  • Select from options
  • Confirm selection

Limited Space

Mobile may show:

  • Fewer filter options
  • Simplified interface
  • Essential filters only

Best Practices

Regular Use

  • Filter when board is crowded
  • Use "My tasks" for focus
  • Clear filters when done

Don't Forget

Remember when filters are active:

  • Tasks aren't deleted, just hidden
  • Clear to see all again
  • Check if something seems missing

Communicate

If sharing board:

  • Note active filters
  • Others see same filter
  • Or filters may be personal

Troubleshooting

Tasks Missing

If tasks seem gone:

  • Check active filters
  • Clear all filters
  • Verify tasks exist

Filter Not Working

  • Verify filter selection
  • Refresh the page
  • Try different filter
  • Check if feature is available

Search No Results

  • Check spelling
  • Try partial match
  • Search may be limited
  • Expand search scope

Filters Won't Clear

  • Try each filter individually
  • Refresh page
  • Check for stuck UI
  • Clear browser cache
